Teachers across the US are gearing up to mesh their instruction with the celebration of Thanksgiving the last Thursday of the month. Many teachers even incorporate teaching social skills and promote appreciation and gratitude by focusing on what you have instead of what you haven’t, being kind, being a friend, etc. (Even though we know this also goes on every day of the school year, all day long!) This month’s Follower Freebie lends a hand by providing an I Am Thankful For … writing activity.
Three blackline pages are provided. One without lines, one with wide ruled lines and one with narrow lines.
These pages can be used to have the students write about some things they are thankful for. The page without lines could be used for students to draw pictures instead of writing or for those who do not need lines. After writing or drawing, the students can then color the pictures and the pages can be displayed in the hallway, on the bulletin board or in the classroom.
The pages can also be used as a creative writing assignment if the students are directed to write as if they were a pilgrim girl or boy in the picture and write what they might be thankful for from that perspective. Or maybe even from that of the turkey if they so choose. 🙂 If stories are very elaborate, they can simply write on the back or staple on a second page.
