I’ve been perusing the blogs this week and they’re all decorating for fall. I love fall. It’s my very favorite time of the year! But people, in the Deep South, I can not decorate for fall the first of Sept! 😀
Now I will say I did think about it. Just because I didn’t want to be behind … and hey, a posted picture might spur a fall decorating inspiration for someone else. But no, I couldn’t do it. Even though I love fall, I don’t think I could live with my fall decor for 3 months before moving it out in Dec. And I definitely do not decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving … curses!!
Here in the Deep South, Sept is a good time to start “thinking” about fall, but it’s still way to hot to put much more than thought into it.
You don’t put away your flip flops.
You definitely don’t put away your summer clothes and pull out your fall gear.
You do start planning your fall vacation.
You do start dreaming about cooler weather, fall leaves and pumpkin anything!
Two things give this time of the year away
Even without a calendar I could tell when Aug/Sept roll around when two things happen: what you see and hear changes. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but every year, right before school starts I start to see the days start changing. There’s something about the light or the length of the days or something that changes that gives a hint or reminder that things are changing and fall is on it’s way. Delicious! I love that reminder every year! The only thing better are those cool crisp days of fall. Oh, those are my very favorite. Oh wait, no … cool crisp days with fall leaves swirling down … now THOSE are my very favorite days EVER!!!
The other change is the sound of football.
Now, I’m not a football fan in any form. Never have been. My husband, totally opposite. So if there’s a game on, he’ll find it. So with the first sounds of football come the hints of fall. The other night as I was washing dishes with, of course, football playing in the background, I thought how comforting that sound was. It was another way of ushering in my favorite season. Now, ask me again, say November and you’re likely to get a totally different answer after it’s been blaring on full volume on every channel, on every TV in the house, every day of the week for two or three months. (0k, maybe I exaggerated a little, but I don’t think I did much!) 😉
So anyway, all this to say, it’s going to be a bit before I break out the fall stuff here … oh say, the first of Oct. Maybe by then we’ll even have a cool snap. Yeah, I know … wishful thinking here in the Deep South. So I’ll leave you with these fall links from last year to tide you over to give you something to think about till I get back with you the first of Oct. Ok? 😉 And if you want to get started off on the right foot, make those Pumpkin Muffins. Omg, you can not go wrong with those!!! Best muffins ever!! Just ask my friends!!!
My fall Pinterest boards …
Enjoy these last dog days of summer! (whatever that means … but it sounds truly Southern doesn’t it? lol!)
