This time of the year always seems like a good time to incorporate a Farm unit into the curriculum. But really there’s almost never a bad time. The farm lends itself well to incorporating many activities and teaching using farm activities is one of my favorites … because it’s always Fun at the Farm!
Fun at the Farm
Fun at the Farm is actually the name of the emergent reader that I created to go with my Farm Unit. It is chock full of sight words and would be a perfect book to use to introduce or reinforce action words. Each page starts off with the sentence frame “We can …”. The illustrations are likenesses of my sister’s grands and boy do they have some fun on the farm! 🙂 This book really means a lot to mean now, because at the time, my sister was doing my illustrations. In Jan. 2019, Carol gave up her second fight with cancer. That makes it hard for me to work with her illustrations. But it also makes me feel good that her talent continues to help students and teachers …. because that’s how she spent her life; helping others.

I have a farm unit, Old MacDonald’s Farm, on my old website, The Virtual Vine, that is ollllld and dusty. If you want to take a peek and see if there’s anything there you can use, it’s here. Remember, I warned you, it’s old and dusty. It’s like going into Grandma’s attic! 😀
