If you’re following me for the teaching resources, I have to tell you, I’m really excited about what I’m going to share. Yesterday, I finished my first digital learning resource. Yay! It was fun and frustrating, but in the end, Apples One More One Less Digital Learning Resources for Kindergarten and First Grade using Google Slides was born! Scroll down and take a peek …
Creating this product was so incredibly frustrating for me. It reminded me of when I was learning to build my first website. At times, my mood swung from wanting to pull my own hair out to wanting to take a sledgehammer to my computer! However, I’ve wanted to learn how to create digital resources for a long time, and that time was right NOW. I felt like I was under pressure, time wise, due to the pandemic and the need for digital learning resources for new and struggling learners. I had to learn PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Classroom and Google Slides almost all at one time. But y’all … the creating was so much fun! I love learning new things creatively.
Gaining More Control Over Your Technology Instruction
As a teacher, have you ever searched the Internet for a website to use with your students for a specific skill to incorporate technology into your lesson plans? If you were lucky enough to find one, either it wasn’t exactly what you needed or there were a ton of distracting links around it just begging your students to click there. By creating or purchasing your own digital resources, you can have more control over what happens with your technology instruction. You can also do what I did and create pages so they can record their answers and then self-check AND have follow up worksheets.
In this product, I kept the skill relatively simple on purpose. When I was teaching part-time, I had a student who needed activities just like this and it was incredibly hard to find activities that weren’t overwhelming.
So in this product, the student only has 2 answer choices. They decide which number comes before the number on the tree and which number comes after the number on the tree. Then they drag the apples to the correct spots on the tree. If applicable they record their answer on the recording sheet.
Apples One More and One Less has 2 follow up worksheets. The second one I was having problems with my printer, so I kept changing it trying to find the problem and ended up with 3 pages that can be used for scaffolding or differentiation. *don’t laugh .. my printer was out of black ink 😀 * Any of these pages could also be used for Centers or assessment. So how cool is that? Not only are you hitting technology, but maybe even assessment, differentiation, remediation or enrichment.
As I mentioned earlier, if you follow me, I’m hoping this is just the first of many Digital Learning Resources for Kindergarten and First Grade that I’ll create. If you don’t follow me and you’re interested, scroll to the bottom of the page for instructions on how to follow on several platforms. If you’re as excited as I am about creating digital products, comment below. I can’t wait to learn and try out new things. In this first product not only did I learn basics, but I learned about movable pieces. Students drag the apples and put them in the right space on the tree. So fun!!
I still have things to learn about Google Classroom and sharing assignments with students, etc. But all in good time I guess.
I have my idea for my next digital product. I bet you have at least one idea swirling around in your head, too! Share your idea below .
OH!! Speaking of ideas! Dakota was trying this product out for me along with Gunner while they were quarantined at home. Dakota is only 13, but she gave feedback on the product and she had such a good idea I ended up happily revising the product. Thank you, Dakota, for helping to make a good product even better!
