Do you have good friends that you’d love to just spend an afternoon talking with? Well, I have more than a few, but yesterday a few of us long time friends got together for lunch at my home. We enjoyed some good food and spent the afternoon chatting and catching up on all the things we’d been missing out on …. in each others’ lives and everyone else’s. 😉
Hosting the lunch was a fun event for me. It gave me a chance to pull out some of my new dishes and to pore over which Pinterest recipes I wanted to try. Not everyone thinks it’s “fun” to cook, clean, plan and decorate. But given the time and money, I enjoy it as long as it’s not something I’m required to do. So I can’t wait for us to get together and do it again soon.
First time I’ve used the red plates and chargers I’d purchased and squirreled away. I couldn’t find enough of the single red plates to buy, so I ended up buying 12 of the dinner plates, salad/dessert plates and bowls. They are so pretty and fun to use.
And those bandana “napkins” were cheap finds at the dollar store for $1 each.
I will have to say, I’ve never drank out of a Mason jar before and I’m not a fan. It’s a super cute idea and some people say they love drinking from a jar, but I find the jar opening too small. But you know what? I managed like a champ and didn’t let it slow me down while enjoying my Peach Bellinis.
I already had these tablecloths from a Cowboy Bunco theme, so I put together this floral centerpiece last minute. I sort of hate the flowers are real, because I’d love to use it on the table for a while … but those beautiful flowers need full sun to live.
The table needed a little something extra. I used a couple of old Mason jars and some candles and ribbon that I already had to create the votives. Sometimes it’s a good thing to have crates of ribbon and “stuff”. Now I’d just like to get it all organized where it’s easier to find.
I’ve been dieting, so the food seemed out of this world good to me. This is the same Chopped Fruit with Lightly Caramelized Pecans and Vanilla Yogurt that I did at my Easter Bunco that was such a hit. Recipe for the Pecans is here.
I left out the tomatoes and onions and added bacon to the top. And because they didn’t have 8 oz bottles of salad dressing, I “might” have ended up adding more salad dressing.
Now that I’m transitioning to this new Southern Style, I’ve fallen in love with these crockery bowls. These belonged to my mom and grandmother and I hope to add more to the collection.
My version of Southwestern Salsa since I don’t like raw onions or bell peppers. Instead, I added 2 T diced jalapeno peppers. It was good, but I liked the Pineapple Salsa better that I made not too long ago where you actually cook the pineapple. I’m going to post that soon.
This was sooo good! I didn’t have time to use my decorator gun and make it all fancy, but not one person seemed to care. 😀
We also had …
- babyback ribs that were so tender they were falling off the bone
- shrimp sauteed in garlic and butter
- Peach Bellinis and a couple of wines
- tea
Take a look at my Pinterest board (Recipes: Beverages) for Peach Bellini recipes. I didn’t provide a link because I used 2 recipes and then adapted.
This was a perfect time to try out all the recipes from Pinterest that I’ve wanted to try. Enough food for to-go bags, left overs and to share with neighbors and even more friends!
Wonderful food, wonderful time and wonderful friends. Looking forward to doing it again.
