The 4th of July and red, white and blue go together. You don’t mess with that. The 4th is a day set aside for celebrating all the great things about the US and decorating with the colors of the American flag is just a given.
The 4th is not only a day to celebrate the great things we have as a nation, but to remember and honor those now, or in the past, who are in the military and did their part in securing those freedoms. A big THANK YOU and a hug to all of you for your service.
Yesterday was a sad ending to a tradition in our family … and hopefully the beginning of a new one. I can not remember a 4th that has not been spent with our extended family at my Dad’s. But with everything that has happened to him lately, he finally called a halt to the gathering. So hopefully we started a new tradition of our own family gathering here.
So, with so many other projects going on at the moment (which you’ll here about soon!), I kind of let this gathering sneak up on me. 🙂
This is what I threw together at the last minute … literally, the day of. Some of the things, ok a lot of it, you may recognize from my friends’ lunch. All the other dishes and decor I pulled out of my magical hat …. nothing new. 😉
*the kids always ask for my homemade Mac ‘n Cheese when they come to my house
These are LA shrimp and they don’t disappoint! Straight off the dock.
New potatoes, straight from my dad’s garden. Mmmm …
Recipe for Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle … so yummy! I also served this last month when I hosted lunch for my friends. But it’s so good and I don’t think it’s a 4th of July celebration without strawberries!
We ended the night by taking our granddaughter to get fireworks, picking up a couple of her friends and then her Pop Pop put on a fireworks show just for them out over the lake. After Dakota saw how much her Pop Pop spent on those two big bags of fireworks and what he did for her, she felt like one very special little girl. A great memory.
Hope your 4th was just as wonderful, yummy and memorable.
